In September, we were thrilled to welcome the PLME Class of 2029 to campus! Our newest students began their journey with the Whole Patient Program, featuring pediatrician Dr. Paulo Pina and his patient and family. This special experience, supported by the Stanley D. Simon, M.D. Lectureship, offered students a meaningful introduction to the heart of medicine, the patient-physician relationship.
In October, all PLME students came together for our first annual PLME Conference. The weekend included engaging presentations, panels, and workshops on professionalism, research, humanism in medicine, and ethics. Dean Liza Aguiar led a popular hands-on suturing workshop, and students presented their work at the PLME Summer Research Assistantship (SRA) + Medical Comics Display, with strong support from mentors, lab members, and friends. The festivities also included a community dinner and a lively and competitive Lip Sync Battle organized by the PLME Senateāa highlight for all!
Later in the semester, students enjoyed our second Whole Patient Program event, featuring craniofacial surgeon Dr. Albert Woo and his patient. Open to all PLME undergraduates, the session drew an excellent turnout and sparked thoughtful discussion about patient-centered care.
To round out the semester, the Whole Physician Program will host an Advocacy in Medicine Panel, featuring physicians and medical students who will share their experiences and insights on using their voices to promote positive change in healthcare.
