- 7/10-7/21/23 HealthCORE Program - HealthCORE is a two-week program aimed to expose high school students to the different career opportunities in healthcare, teach them important skills, and connect them with individuals who could help foster their interests. HealthCORE’s objectives are to provide students with a better understanding of healthcare professions, increase their interest in medicine, and help them develop tangible skills to make informed decisions about their future careers.
- 7/10-7/14 - Week of Medicine - During this 1-week summer enrichment course, high school students will have an opportunity to experience interactive and hands-on experiences in medicine and science. Participants are exposed to panels/workshops that introduce careers in health professions and are provided with mentorship from health professionals and medical students.

- Brown Advocates for Social Change and Equity (BASCE) seeks to develop healthcare leaders who have a passion for engaging their peers in dialogue around issues of racism, cultural diversity, inclusion, social justice, and health equity.
- We have selected our BASCE Fellows-very exciting!
- TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) is also shifting to include more theme-based programming to engage more students.
- TEAM is a student-run program that supports academics and community building for URIM, first gen and low income students:
- Academic - runs for the entire year.
- Community building - 1 themed activity per month.
- August is going to be a scavenger hunt for students to be more familiar and comfortable within the med school space.

- On June 28, 2023 Dioscaris R. Garcia, PhD from The Office of Belonging, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (OBEDI) at The Warren Alpert Medical School served on the URI-Lifespan Retreat Panel on Equitable Ambulatory Practices for Pharmacies.
- On June 15 - 29, 2023 Dioscaris R. Garcia, PhD from The Office of Belonging, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (OBEDI) at The Warren Alpert Medical School served as a lead panelist for the American Society for Microbiology’s Microbe Conference in Houston, TX. The topic of the panel was “IDEAA (Inclusive Diversity with Equity, Access and Accountability), Science and Society”. Additionally, Dean Garcia was nominated for the ASM William A. Hinton for Advancement of a Diverse Community of Microbiologists.
- 6/5-8/4/23 - Leadership Alliance Program - The Leadership Alliance Physician-Scientist track of the Brown University SR-EIP is a collaborative initiative with the Office of Belonging, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. The summer enrichment program provides rising Junior and Senior undergraduate students with a fully paid nine week internship with an MD/PhD Faculty Mentor. Students are matched with a laboratory of interest in their preferred research area noted in their SR-EIP application. Additionally, participants attend weekly study group sessions, dinner meetings, and discussion groups allowing students to learn more about research collaborations and the graduate school experience. Students participating in the MD/PhD track are given opportunities to participate in clinical shadowing experiences with physicians in the Providence community. Examples of previous participating specialties include Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, Pediatrics, Pulmonology, and Emergency Medicine. In addition, students participate in weekly MD didactic sessions offering them experiences and exposure to medical education and clinical medicine.
- 6/5-6/23/23 Rhode Island Month of Medicine - This 3-week summer program for pre-medical students provides participants with a “snapshot” of the medical school experience. This program will allow students to experience medical school-level coursework and promote their academic development while enhancing their competitiveness as a medical school applicant. The core of this three-week experience includes: lectures that replicate course materials covered in the first few weeks of medical school; panels/workshops about applying to medical school and careers in medicine; mentoring and advising from medical school faculty and current medical students; introduction to clinical medicine.
- 6/3/23 Non-Violence Institute Resource Fair - This fair was to assist the community with resources that are in high demand. Many resources were offered (healthcare, food security, immigration assistance, mental health, ie) including informing the community of the pathway program offered at Brown for students that are in middle and high school grades.
