Student Updates - January 23, 2023

MD’23: Fourth-year medical students are finishing up residency interviews and will compile our official rank order list starting in February. It is an exciting time as we weigh our values in deciding our next chapter of life!

MD’24: Third-year students are continuing clinical rotations across the core clerkships and are nearing the 75% completion mark! Many of us are starting to think about residency applications, our future careers, and the specialties that we want to pursue. Some of us are considering what type of away rotations we may want to do, the electives we want to take during 4th year, whether to participate in the Academic Scholars Program to pursue dual degrees or additional research, and even some of the vacations and trips we want to take in the coming year. Many of us are also taking time to present research at a variety of regional and national conferences, and anxiously anticipating STEP 2 CK. Despite the whirlwind of experiences many of us are facing, we are excited about the future prospects and thrilled to start our 4th year!

MD’25: Second-year students are about a month away from embarking on “dedicated” time to study for USMLE Step 1. We’re currently wrapping up hematology. Next week, we’ll dive into GI, which is the final block of our pre-clinical IMS curriculum. After nearly 18 months of lectures and block exams, we are looking forward to beginning the clinical years at The Warren Alpert Medical School.

MD’26: The first-year students are getting ready for the first exam of the semester. Since returning from break, we are studying intensely because Brain Sciences 1 block is very difficult and requires a lot of focus.

PLME: This month, PLME students finished their finals and classes and had a chance to relax during their winter break. Some of the students were busy taking classes during the Brown winter session and the others prepared for the upcoming semester. To introduce the medical school to PLME seniors, the PLME office and Medical School organized a panel where seniors had a chance to hear from faculty and current medical students about resources available, student life, wellness, diversity, and opportunities. Students wanting to do research through the PLME Summer Research Assistantship (SRA) are currently working on their applications. PLME seniors are getting ready for their last semester as an undergraduate at Brown before continuing their medical education at The Warren Alpert Medical School the following year.
